Iran chief justice calls for Russia-Iran coop. on legal issues

Tehran, IRNA – Chief Justice of Iran Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i has underlined the need for cooperation between Moscow and Tehran to facilitate legal issues of nationals from both countries.

Mohseni-Eje'i made the remarks in a meeting with Prosecutor-General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Iranian chief justice welcomed the Russian judiciary official and his entourage, saying that since the relationship between Russia and Iran has been upgrading in the last two years in political and economic sectors, the expansion of legal and judicial cooperation seems to be inevitable and necessary.

Referring to two cooperation documents between prosecutor generals from Russia and Iran, which were inked on Tuesday, he called for creating appropriate mechanisms in order to make operational the documents.

The judiciary system of the Islamic Republic embraces the development of cooperation between the two countries in judicial and legal affairs, he said, expressing hope that the collaborations could ensure the interests of both nations.

As to the failure of certain Western paradigms in bringing welfare and happiness to people around the globe, the Iranian official noted that today’s world is changing and we should play an effective role in the transforming atmosphere based on our proper and principled definition of human rights.

Russia and Iran can cooperate in forming specialized working groups to improve environmental rights as well, he argued.

He further pointed to hostilities of the US, the Zionist regime, and their allies against Iran, saying that they hatched different plots against the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people over the past four decades.
Krasnov, for his part, appreciated Iranian officials’ hospitality, noting that both countries are facing common challenges and threats such as extremism, terrorism, cyber insecurity, arms and drugs smuggling, and crimes against children.

Thanks to efforts made by the presidents of Iran and Russia, the bilateral collaborations in all sectors, including judicial issues, are of strategic importance in the eyes of both sides, he said.

The key to successful cooperation concerning judicial and legal interactions between Iran and Russia is the creation of mechanisms to expand coordination and collaboration, the Russian official added.
